Red is a powerful color that has special significance in Chinese culture.

Even before FORK MOUNTAIN begins, May paints her nails red – hinting at an awakening already occurring under the surface.

By the end of the film, red confetti rains down in a dream-like surreal moment, marking a celebration – or epiphany of May’s beginning to come emerge from the adoption fog and awakening to a new, more complex identity.
