While the orphan/adoptee genre has been a fan favorite in popular media since antiquity, few adoptee stories are told by ACTUAL ADOPTEES.
Historically, our stories are stolen and repurposed by community outsiders (non-adoptees), who frankly get a lot of stuff wrong. Their work relies on stereotypes and inaccuracies that actively harm our community.
FORK MOUNTAIN is a film for adoptees by adoptees – a film we can call “our own.” By presenting an authentic adoptee perspective, we have a unique opportunity to manifest a new space for exploring clashes of cultures, ethnicity, race, and love in today’s chaotic, socio-politically charged climate.
As a director, writer, Asian transracial adoptee, and former foster youth, I am able to speak to a broad range of adoptee experiences.
